Hello and welcome! Tooby's Travels take 2: exploring the world of Marine Biology

Updated: 4 days ago

OK, here we go. Hello, My name is eve sanders and I'm a twenty-something marine biologist and ecologist born and bred in south Devon, uk. To bring you up to speed on what's happened in my life so far, here is a quick recap: in 2018 I graduated from my BSc undergraduate degree in marine biology and oceanography at the university of plymouth. straight after I moved to central London, after getting a job as the thames citizen fish officer with an environmental charity based at the university college London and funded by the environment agency. after three and a half years in this role, I started suffering from acute stress, forcing me to reevaluate what I wanted in life. The decision to move back home to my friends and family in Devon in spring 2020 was helped by the onset of the global coronavirus pandemic. From September 2021 until September 2022, I was in healing mode, getting my health back on track. Then in October 2022 I took the leap back into education to complete a research masters in marine biology based at the marine biological association on plymouth hoe - laboratories I was frillier with after I did my undergrad research there back in 2016-2017. My masters is a two year course.

It's been over a year since I last posted on my blog of 10 years called 'Tooby'stravels'. tooby'stravels used to be a travel blog that focused on my often spontaneous adventures abroad as a teenager. I wrote some stuff I was proud of, such as the blog post that focused on my Kilimanjaro summit in 2017 and some random ramblings about nature and the great outdoors. However, now at the tender age of 27 and after being battered by some life experiences such as moving to London, Bristol and various other places, along with digging into the terrifying adult career world, I've decided to take my blogging more seriously and create a new space for adult me. This will be a place I can write about not just my nature findings, marine biology research and sustainability, but also my personal take on what it's like to be a more holistic researcher in the science world. I will also be breaking down new and exciting science into bite sized chunks, eliminating the language that makes science so often inaccessible to the layman - an issue I feel passionately about.

With a big year ahead for me career-wise (yes, I'm scared), its a great time to follow my blog for new and exciting, science-based posts on a range of difference subjects ranging from plastic-free fishing, to a growing my own cotton experiment. stay tuned!
